Hadouken and Gallows Comparison





How does the band's typography and visual appearance differ?

As you can probably tell both of the colour schemes are exactly the same, and both bands target audiences are the same. Hadouken allows their fans to create their own colour schemes on their logo making them more involved in their band, as gallows logo could be used as like a tattoo and also isnt as customisable as Hadoukens logo.

How does the band's merchandising differ?

It looks like Gallows are mainly targeting an American audience you can tell this by looking at their website, they are selling clothing such as caps and hoodies etc which are only available in the United States. But with Hadouken they are selling much more items than Gallows they are selling items such as keyrings. This shows that Hadouken are more passionate for pleasing their fans.

How do these differences increase their appeal to their differing niche audiences?

Gallows have many tattoo style designs in their merchandises which appeals to the niche audience who like tattoos. If fans start copying Gallows tattoos this would make the fans feel more involved with the band. Hadouken sells white merchandise, this is so that their fans can make their own designs on the tshirt and can do anything they want on them, here Hadouken allows their fans to be creative.

Age: I think that the age of the target audience is 11-22 this is because Hadouken is a band with young members.

Why are music videos increasingly important when promoting an artist?

Thanks to new media technology, music videos have now evolved as the videos these days give the audience of the music video an idea of the band. This could be the bands hobbies and interests and how their life is. This would influence audiences to listen to more of a bands music, which then after creates bigger revenues for the musical bands.

What are the three types of music video?

The first type of music video is performance, this is a video that captures a live performance of a band or artist, showing the excitement of a live event. The second type of music video is narrative this is where a story is shown throughout the music video which is matched with the lyrics of the music and lyrics. The third type of music video is conceptual this uses visuals that are appropriate to the tempo of the song. The idea comes from directors and does not have to relate to the song.

Why is branding a band or artist especially important when marketing towards niche subcultures?

Niche subcultures are groups of people who are very specific and require a different interest than majority of people. In order for this to work the band/artists need to be unique which would me infuencial then the number of fans will increase. Without branding it would be impossible for people to found out about a band/artist.

How does branding 'from within the band' increase the appeal to a niche, subculture based audience?

As they are a niche audience they want to feel important to the band, this is were brading with in the band takes place. This will help the band/artist form their identity and become unique.

Target Audience

Age: Gallows target audience are between the ages of 16-25, as this band has a very energetic approach to music.

Gender: As all the members of Gallows are males, this makes the target audience mostly males.

Ethnicity: Gallows is a British band but, they are aiming mostly at an American audience this is because the US version of the site is much more detailed.

Hobbies and interests: People who play guitars and have an interest in the sort of area in music.

Current media consumption: Watching music channels play the same kind of music, or other similar bands with the same genre.

Entertainment: The band likes to interact with the audience which would make them more likeable, as there performance is fully of energy this gives a sense of togetherness.

Personal identity: I feel that their tattoos in the band have allowed the fans to have their own identity. The band encourages their fans to be unique.
